This is a liquid medium for quantitative procedures for susceptibility testing of rapid growing aerobic and facultatively anaerobic bacterial species isolated from clinical specimens. The medium is formulated to the requirements of the CLSI M7 and ISO 20776-1:2006 standards and can be used for MIC determination by the broth microdilution method.
The acid hydrolysate of casein and beef extract provide the essential nutrients required for growth. The starch is present to act as a protective colloid in the medium absorbing any toxic substances that may be present in the medium. The thymidine and thymine levels in the medium are low to prevent any antagonism and the calcium and magnesium levels are adjusted to ensure correct MIC values with aminoglycoside agents.
