This is a semi-solid medium suitable for the recovery and isolation of Clostridium spp from most types of sample, particularly when the organisms may only be present in small numbers. L-Cysteine Hydrochloride and Glucose are included as reducing agents and a small amount of agar is added to reduce Oxygen diffusion within the medium. Although this formulation, as presented, is non-selective it can be made suitable for the differentiation of sulphite reducing clostridia in water by the addition of sterile solutions of Sodium Sulphite and Ferric Citrate immediately prior to use.
