  • BM0110 Cooked Meat with Brain Heart Infusion Broth Overlay is suitable for recovery, isolation, and storage of the most fastidious anaerobes, such as Clostridium species as well as many aerobes. Cooked Meat Medium prepared from heart tissue is a well-established medium for the cultivation of anaerobic and aerobic organisms. Cooked Meat with Brain Heart Infusion Broth Overlay has been shown to initiate bacterial growth from very small innocua and to maintain the viability of cultures over long periods of time; it is especially useful in culturing from blood samples. Mixed cultures of bacteria survive without displacing the slower growing organisms. The products of growth do not rapidly destroy the inoculated organisms and therefore it is an excellent medium for the storage of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria.
  • For in vitro diagnostic use. BM2250 Cooked Meat with Fastidious Anaerobic Broth Overlay is designed for the culture of fastidious anaerobes, particularly Bacteroides and Clostridium species. Fastidious Anaerobe Broth is formulated from a range of nutrients which have been selected to optimise the recovery and growth of most anaerobic organisms of clinical importance. The nutritious formulation also allows growth from a small initial inoculum which can be important for clinical specimens. Anaerobic bacteria can infect deep wounds, tissue, and internal organs where there is little oxygen after injury or surgery. Infection by anaerobic bacteria is normally characterized by formation of abscesses, foul smelling discharge, pus, and free gas in tissue, leading to tissue degradation. BM2250 is recommended as part of the clinical process for the investigation of these infections (1). BM2250 is also used to cultivate and maintain anaerobic bacteria especially Bacteroides and Clostridium spp. It can differentiate saccharolytic from proteolytic strains. Proteolytic organisms cause degradation of the meat granules and blackening of the meat surface.

    Fluid D (USP)

    This broth is used to aid the rinsing of the membrane filter apparatus when performing sterility testing. Fluid D has been formulated with the addition of polysorbate 80 to enable the rinsing of products containing lecithin or oil. This formulation complies with the Harmonised USP/EP/JP.
  • This medium is intended for use in sterility testing of substances in accordance with the United States Pharmacopoeia and European Pharmacopoeia. It is a general purpose medium for the cultivation of both fastidious anaerobic and aerobic micro-organisms. Sodium Thioglycollate and L-cystine are included to reduce the medium to ensure anaerobiosis and to inactivate mercury and other heavy metallic compounds. A small amount of agar is added to further reduce the update of oxygen. However, in the event of oxidation, the medium will turn pink due to the presence of the resazurin. Providing only 30% of the medium has turned pink, the Eh may be restored by heating the medium (once only) in a boiling water bath.
  • This is a selective medium primarily for the isolation and differentiation of coliforms and non-lactose fermenting Gram –ve bacterial species from clinical, dairy, industrial and water samples. This media differs from the original MacConkey formulation with the addition of an extra 0.5% Sodium chloride, an altered Bile salt mix and the neutral red concentration was also modified. This enhanced the effect of inhibiting Gram +ve and other non-enteric bacterial species. This medium conforms to the requirements of the Harmonised USP/EP/JP.
  • This is a selective medium primarily for the isolation of Enterobacteriacae from waters & sewage. This media differs from the original MacConkey formulation in that as well as Bile Salts, Crystal Violet has been included as an additional selective agent. This has the effect of inhibiting gram-positive micrococci.
  • BM0370 Selenite Mannitol Broth is a selective enrichment medium used for the isolation of Salmonella species from clinical, food and environmental specimens. Following overnight incubation subculture(s) are usually made on to one or more of the many selective enteric solid media. Selenite Mannitol Broth is recommended for the enrichment of Salmonella species from faecal specimens in UK SMI S7 for the investigation of gastroenteritis.
  • Mueller-Hinton with 2% Glucose & Methylene Blue (25ml) This medium is intended for use as a means of differentiation of Candida spp. based on Mueller-Hinton Agar base. The medium is modified by the addition of Glucose and Methylene Blue indicator and is the recommended media for the susceptibility testing of Yeasts according to the CLSI M44-A2 document.
  • Pseudomonas Agar Base with 1% Glycerol, Cephalothin, Fucidin & Cetrimide (CFC) This is a selective medium for the isolation of Pseudomonas spp primarily in food, water and environmental samples. The medium uses Magnesium and Potassium salts to enhance pigment production and is made selective by the addition of CFC supplement. The presence of blue/green or brown pigmentation or fluorescence is indicative of presumptive Pseudomonas spp. It should be noted however that further testing must be carried out to confirm the full identity of the organism.
  • Pseudomonas Agar Base with 1% Glycerol & CN Supplement A selective medium for the isolation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa the medium is made selective by the inclusion of Cetrimide and Naladixic Acid (CN) supplement to significantly reduce the enteric organisms particularly Proteus and Klebsiella spp. Magnesium and Potassium salts are included to enhance the production of the pigments pyocyanin and fluorescein.
  • A medium for the selective enrichment of Salmonellae spp from both clinical and food samples. It is a buffered Lactose Peptone Broth to which Sodium Biselenite is added as the selective agent and Cystine to enhance the recovery of salmonella in low numbers. Subcultures should be made from the top 1/3 of the broth after not more than 24 hours incubation as after this time there is a loss of selectivity.
  • BM0360 Selenite F Broth is a medium for the selective enrichment of Salmonella spp. from both clinical and food samples. Following overnight incubation subculture(s) are usually made on to one or more of the many selective enteric solid media. Selenite F Broth is also recommended by the American Public Health Association (APHA) for the examination of food. Subcultures should be made from the top 1/3 of the broth after not more than 24 hours incubation as after this time there is a loss of selectivity.
  • Sorbitol MacConkey with Cefixime & Tellurite (CT-Smac) This is a selective differential medium for the isolation of Escherichia coli O157:H7. It differs from other MacConkey medium in that Lactose has been replaced by Sorbitol. As Escherichia coli O157:H7 does not ferment Sorbitol it produces pale translucent colonies whereas most other strains of Escherichia coli are Sorbitol positive and produce pink colonies. The medium is made more selective by the addition of the antimicrobial Cefixime and Potassium Tellurite.
  • This is a general-purpose medium which supports the growth of a wide range of organisms. It is suitable for Phage Typing, Colicine Typing and for testing the X and V requirements of Haemophilus spp as well as many other areas of bacteriological investigation and conforms to the requirements of the United States Pharmacopeia for sterility testing of pharmaceutical products.
