This medium is intended for use in sterility testing of substances in accordance with the United States Pharmacopoeia and European Pharmacopoeia. It is a general purpose medium for the cultivation of both fastidious anaerobic and aerobic micro-organisms. Sodium Thioglycollate and L-cystine are included to reduce the medium to ensure anaerobiosis and to inactivate mercury and other heavy metallic compounds. A small amount of agar is added to further reduce the update of oxygen. However, in the event of oxidation, the medium will turn pink due to the presence of the resazurin. Providing only 30% of the medium has turned pink, the Eh may be restored by heating the medium (once only) in a boiling water bath.

For in vitro diagnostic use only. SW0005-M055-3 Strep B Swab Kit contains Lim Broth, a nutritious medium for the enrichment and transport of Group B streptococci along with a sterile swab suitable for collection of patient samples. The product may be used to preserve, transport, and enrich Group B streptococci that may be present in samples obtained from patients by use of the swab. Each pack also contains a sterile swab in an individual peel-pouch. The swab has a polystyrene shaft with a small viscose tip. The shaft has a breakpoint 78mm from the tip allowing the shortened swab to engage in the shaft capture device in the lid and ensure that the swab is removed from the tube when the cap is unscrewed. Lim broth is a nutritious, selective broth utilising the base formulation developed by Todd and Hewitt (1) for the enrichment of Group B streptococci. It is intended as a selective, enrichment broth for Streptococcus agalactiae that may be present is specimens. The device is primarily intended for use in screening pregnant women for the presence of S. agalactiae, which poses a significant risk of infection in new-born infants that may result in serious illness or death.

A selective medium for the enrichment of Enterobacteriaceae and the detection of Escherichia coli in pharmaceutical products. The inclusion of Bromocresol Purple indicator makes the colour change caused by acid production from the fermentation of lactose easy to read with gas formation. The presence of Ox bile helps to suppress the growth of Gram positive and non-enteric bacterial species. This formulation complies with the Harmonized USP/EP/JP.

Malt Extract Agar (pH 5.6) is recommended for the detection and isolation and enumeration of yeasts and moulds (1). The medium is also used in the testing of foods and various materials and for the cultivation of the strains for microbiological vitamin assays. Malt Extract Agar (pH 5.6) has been used to cultivate fungi and yeast cultures in the sugar industry, in the manufacturing of syrups, soft drinks, and foods.
This medium meets the requirements of The British Standards Institution (2).

This is an agar-based medium for the isolation of Mycobacterium spp. from veterinary samples; particularly the species primarily responsible for bovine TB, M.bovis. The medium is complex but includes L-Glutamic acid, Ammonium sulphate, Sodium citrate, Pyridoxine and Biotin as growth factors and Magnesium sulphate, Ferric ammonium citrate as sources of trace ions. Di-sodium phosphate and Mono-potassium phosphate are also present to maintain the pH of the medium. Further enrichment is provided by the addition of Oleic acid, Albumin and Dextrose. The medium is made selective by the inclusion of Ticarcillin, Polymyxin B, Trimethoprim and Amphotericin B. Malachite green is also incorporated to provide a colour contrast between the colonies and the medium as well as contributing some inhibitory effect on organisms other than mycobacteria. It should be noted that Glycerol is NOT added to this medium as Glycerol can be inhibitory for M.bovis when examining veterinary samples. However, this product contains Lysed sheep blood, Adult bovine serum and Sodium pyruvate to enhance the growth of M.bovis.

Approved by the Clinical & Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI formerly known as the NCCLS) in USA this medium can be considered as an alternative to Iso-Sensitest Broth for antimicrobial sensitivity testing and MIC determinations by tube dilution methods. It is low in Thymine and Thymidine and is therefore suitable for use in testing Sulphonamides & Trimethoprim. It is sometimes used in conjunction with Mueller-Hinton Agar.
